RIVERS OF BELIZE
Our country is gifted with so many beautiful attributes which makes it attractive to others around the world. Belize is blessed with rivers which has been useful since the time of the log wood cutters.
NEW RIVER
The new river is a river in the northern Belize and is known as one of the longest rivers in Belize. This river forms the New River Lagoon which is the largest body of fresh water in Belize just east to the Maya temples in Lamanai.
RIO HONDO
Hondo River which is the Spanish for deep river, is a river of Central America approximately 150km in length. This river flows in a northeasterly direction to discharge into Chetumal Bay on the Caribbean Sea.
BELIZE RIVER
The Belize River is a 180mile river in Belize that drains more than a quarter of the country as it winds along the northern edge of the Maya Mountains across the center of the country to the sea just north of Belize City. It is a vital source of drinking water and other domestic use for those living along the river.
MOPAN RIVER
Is a river in Guatemala and the Cayo district in western Belize
near the boarder with Guatemala. This river discharges to the Belize River as it emerges with the Macal River.
